Everybody we meet has been affected by the war. We listened to some harrowing stories yesterday from people who had experienced far more than anyone should have to bear. Even Bosnians were taken by surprise that war should erupt. We heard from a young man who was in Australia when things began to get difficult and he just didn’t believe it. How could multi-faith, multi-ethnic villages and towns where people were friends and neighbours contemplate breaking into factions and fighting each other? It is to everyone’s great credit in Tuzla that the different communities send their children to the same schools and are doing their best to overcome a very difficult recent history.
